Our self-guided routes are some of our least demanding trips, making them ideal for first-timers and are available in a wide range of locations across the Europe – including exploring rural orchards in Spain to visiting the finest chateaux in France.
On many days there is the option of a longer or shorter ride, and of course there is nothing stopping stronger riders improvising a little using the maps provided. We have an exciting range of destinations and we now have a range of ‘Premium’ trips which offer a higher or unique standard of accommodation and more included meals, often these are gastronomic trips where the food and wine is a feature of the trip highlights. Self-guided trips offer the opportunity to get out there and enjoy the freedom of the open road your way!
Our selection of self-guided holidays covers a variety of lengths, destinations and styles. Your trip will focus on a specific region allowing you plenty of time to really explore the destinations. The benefit of a self-guided itinerary is that you can see the highlights in your own way. We provide suggestions in the route notes, but you can plan your day around what interests you most. In addition to this, the departure dates are much more flexible. On many trips there are departures every second day, or at least once or twice a week throughout the season, just check the trip information on each page and then check availability with us.
Route notes and maps
We provide you with detailed route notes and the relevant local maps to get you to your next accommodation, including accurate distances and directions. As well as taking the hassle out of route finding, the notes also give you plenty of local hints to ensure that you don’t miss the highlights of the region. From the best cafes and restaurants to the finest chateaux and most interesting museums, we will help you get the most out of your holiday. We also provide you with the contact details for our local representative, should you need any assistance or further advice during your trip.
A luggage transfer from hotel to hotel is included, thus allowing you to enjoy cycling with only a pannier bag on the bike. Each morning just pack your luggage and leave it in the hotel reception by the designated time and it will be delivered to your next hotel later in the day. It really is that simple.
Quality hybrid or touring style bikes are included in the trip price for all destinations. Racing or electric E-bikes are available on request for a supplement on some trips. If required, we will reserve a suitably sized bike at time of your booking. All bikes are supplied with at least one pannier bag to carry the items you’ll need during your ride, as well as a pump and a puncture repair kit. Some bikes also feature a speedometer and plastic map holder. You are welcome to bring your own bike, but you should be aware that arranging bike transport on flights can be difficult particularly during peak season. A discount on the ground package price will apply if you bring your own bike.
As you are in the saddle during the day it is important that you get a good night sleep. Our hotels are carefully selected for their warm and friendly welcome, their traditional charm and their location. It is important that they fit well into the route to ease your journey and facilitate your exploration. We use a range of comfortable 2-4 star accommodations, including cosy family run hotels, charming inns and farmhouses, or tourist class hotels in the larger cities. All have en suite facilities and some feature outdoor swimming pools. However if you are looking for a little more comfort, we offer a range of Premium Adventures (contact us for details).
Please be aware that although prices on the self guided trips are based on two people travelling, it is usually possible to travel as an individual with an additional ‘solo traveller’ supplement.
